Guidance @ SAC

The Guidance Counsellors at St. Andrew’s College have a caring and supportive role within the school where students can get advice and support about a range of issues. From relationships to study skills, family difficulties to advise and information for third level education, our Guidance Counsellors liaise with the Form Teachers, Year Heads, Support for Learning Teachers and Special Needs Assistants, subject teachers, Deputy Principals and the Principal. They also have regular contact with parents, psychologists, employers, colleges, the Department of Education and other outside agencies. 

Educational Guidance

Providing support at key moments during the students’ time in St. Andrew’s College. The Guidance Counsellors are involved in helping students with the transition from primary to secondary school and assisting students with subject choices at Senior Cycle.

Vocational Guidance

Working closely with students in Junior and Senior Cycle. The Guidance Counsellors increase awareness amongst students in Junior Cycle on the various pathways available to them upon completion of secondary school. The Guidance Counsellors assist senior cycle students with their university/college applications. All student celebrate College Awareness Week with various activities and conversations with teachers regarding their individual educational journeys.

Personal Counselling

The Guidance Counsellors are available to meet with students to talk about any issue that might be affecting them. The students may also have talks and workshops on stress management, navigating friendships, mental health and other relevant topics.
