'New Rules' play for our students
With an important message to share
As Headmistress of St Andrew’s College, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our website and I hope you will get to know our school through the many informative pages available to you on the site.
Our school community numbers over 1,300 students, teachers and support staff, drawn from Ireland and 40 other countries. There is a distinctly international atmosphere in the school and, since 1984, we have been accredited by both the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Our broad range of pupil backgrounds encourages tolerance, understanding and an appreciation of others. We place great store by the concepts of service and the importance of community. Our aim is to develop the talents of all pupils by involving them in a wide ranging educational experience. We are committed to excellence in academic, cultural and sporting pursuits, and to active partnerships between staff and pupils, school and home. Above all, boys and girls are recognised and valued as individuals. They are challenged through a wide range of activities and opportunities, and are encouraged to display initiative and to develop independence.
St Andrew’s has an interesting history. The school was founded in 1894 by members of the Presbyterian community in Dublin. Its full title, St Andrew’s College Dublin, reflects the desire of the founders to create a school which would serve and be respected by all the people of the city.
The school began life at a city-centre location, No. 21 St Stephen’s Green. In 1937 it moved to larger premises on Clyde Road where it remained until 1973 when, as a reinvigorated co-educational day and boarding school, it took possession of a fine new building in the suburb of Booterstown, with an inspiring view of Dublin Bay including, on a clear day, the impressive peninsula of Howth. In September 2010, we opened a magnificent new 3-storey facility to accommodate a number of our teaching departments, a declaration of our commitment to the future of Irish education.
We intend to make up-to-date information about our various activities available on this website. Please feel free to contact us with your comments and suggestions or any questions you may have.

Nathan, Ryan and Alec, band members of New Rules, played online to our students this morning. Through their songs, they tackle bullying and mental health issues. With a Q&A session, they left our students with a very positive message. Thanks guys! @newrulestweets https://t.co/KvrcdnkzGQ
