Assessment in the IB

Assessment is a critical part of any academic programme. Teaching in the  IB is guided by both formative and summative assessment and the summative assessment is used primarily for university entry.  Summative assessment in the IB is divided into Internal Assessments (IAs) and External Assessment.

The External Assessment is primarily through examinations at the end of May of 6IB. - (May 2023 examination schedule here) The purpose of examinations is to allow candidates to show their full capabilities in a controlled environment that offers a consistent experience for all candidates and minimises the opportunities for academic misconduct.
