Retirement

Retirement Function of Mrs Joan Kirby

A retirement function took place on Friday, 9 September 2022 in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire in honour of Mrs Joan Kirby who retired as Headmistress in August 2020.

The evening was extremely well attended by the Board of Management, PTA, SACA, current staff, retired staff and members of Mrs Kirby’s family.

Speeches of recognition and thanks to Mrs Kirby for her exceptional 43-year service to the College were delivered by Mr Rob Micallef (Acting Principal), Ms Dara McClatchie on behalf of SACA, Dr Krysia Lynch on behalf of the PTA and Mrs Hilary McCowen Rabbette and Mr David Ingram on behalf of the Board of Management. Mrs Kirby delivered a wonderfully entertaining and descriptive response which touched on her experience as a young teacher joining St Andrew’s College, her teaching career with the school culminating in her final role as Headmistress of St Andrew’s College, the first Headmistress in the history of the College.

Class of 2022 students, Lana Kaminska Knight and Luke Micallef, performed the song Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls during the musical interlude. A wonderful performance by our past pupils that delighted all present.

Mrs McCowen Rabbette concluded the evening by expressing her thanks to the staff of the College and the staff of the Royal Marine for ensuring the success of this long delayed and highly awaited evening.
