The PTA annual Golf Classic took place in Elm Park Golf Club on Tuesday, 17 May. The event was very well supported with 13 teams battling not only the course, but extremely damp conditions, and as one golfer said, 'the pitch and run shot was not an option and wet gear was tested to the max'. Leading from the front for the winning team was our former Headmistress, Mrs Joan Kirby, who, we are delighted to hear, won the Ladies' Captain's Day in Dooks Golf Club last summer. Mrs Kirby got her team off to a great start ramping her tee shot through the bunker at the front of the first hole and getting it to stop 8 feet from the pin. She of course drained the putt and her team were up and running. Five more birdies followed for a gross team score of 6 under par, a fine effort in the conditions. Mrs Kirby was assisted on her team by her husband Mr David Kirby and our colleagues, Ms Geraldine Scaife and Mr Ivan Ovington.
