U19 Girls win Eastern Region Finals
Massive congratulations to our U19 Girls' Basketball team and their coaches on their performance on Wednesday 5 December, winning the Eastern Region Finals of the Basketball Ireland Post Primary Schools' League 45-40 against Rockford Manor in a very exciting game. This is the first time St Andrew's College have won this League and we are very proud of the girls who have trained so hard this term to take this title.
These inspiring words came from their coach, Ms Clarges
I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the U-19 girls' basketball team on their win over a tough opponent, Rockford Manor. It was a grilling final with a score of 45 to 40.
The game was exciting from start to finish, with our girls coming out of the blocks early. My opinion was that they really wanted this result and the team morale was so tight a loss just wasn't on the cards.
I recall last year sitting on the same bench after losing out to Setanta College who won the league last year. They played before us yesterday winning out and the ghosts of the past only propelled the girls to start well.
That loss stood to the girls yesterday. Setanta's coach talked to our girls last year telling them how resilient they were and that showed true to form yesterday. These girls never give up and have a huge amount of skill.
I want to thank them all for their dedication. Some got to play yesterday, others didn't, but everyone had a role in different games that got us there.
Massive shout-out to our parents' support team. It was so important for you all to attend. It means a lot to the coaching staff and the team to see familiar faces in the stands.
This team has set the bar for future female students in St Andrew's. There is a sporting campaign in Ireland this year called 20/20 with the slogan "if she can't see it, she can't be it"
These girls with dedication, heart , effort and time have showed us we can be it.
The girls will now progress on to the All-Ireland play offs in January, a one-day event to qualify for semi finals.
