2025/2026 Student Council

At St. Andrew’s College Junior School, the Student Council plays a vital role in promoting pupil leadership, pupil voice and agency. It provides a wonderful opportunity for students to take an active role in shaping their school experience, while also learning about responsibility, teamwork and democratic decision-making. Through their work, council members not only represent their peers but also help to ensure that every child has a voice in making the school a better place for everyone.

Students are selected for the council through a democratic process in which each candidate prepares and presents a short talk explaining why they would make a good council member. After listening to the presentations, each class votes for their chosen representative. The Student Council meets every two weeks to share ideas and feedback from their classmates, as well as to take on projects and tasks. One of their most successful initiatives has been the introduction of “Shout Out Boards” in each classroom, where pupils can recognise classmates who are demonstrating the school values of respect, resilience and responsibility.

The Student Council has already achieved many impressive outcomes. Last year, members submitted a video on the Sustainable Development Goals and three students were invited to Áras an Uachtaráin to share their work. They also created a proposal for a new school playground, which was successfully built over the summer. This year’s council is continuing the Shout Out Boards and has already taken on a new project—launching the pupil-created anti-bullying policy Bí Cineálta. To introduce this, they held a whole-school assembly to explain the importance of kindness and inclusion. We are very proud of their leadership so far and look forward to seeing what they will accomplish next.
