First Year Students' Induction Day
First Year Students 2019/2020 Induction Day
On 22 August 2019 the PTA were delighted to welcome new First Year parents to our Senior School community. Some parents have been with the College since starting Junior School, but others were coming into St Andrew's College for the first time.
PTA Chair Krysia Lynch gave the following address:
"We hope that you and your student will be very happy here at St Andrew's College and I also hope that you as parents and guardians will be very happy here and enjoy the many events the PTA organise to support the strong and unique St Andrew's College community.
For those of you who were not aware we will be celebrating 125 years of this community this year. It a very special time for everyone at the College. To mark this celebration the PTA has commissioned two legacy pieces that will be unveiled later this year as part of the celebrations and we are also helping to organise a 125 celebration ball.
I thought today I would do my best to answer a few simple questions about the PTA. Such as
- What does the PTA do?
- What events does it run throughout the year?
- What fund raising events does it organise and what social events
- How does the PTA function?
- How can I get involved?
- How can I make the PTA better?
We have an exciting line up of events for 2019/20. This includes our Christmas Social in December, our Parent Charity Lunch in February, our Annual Table Quiz in March and our Golf Classic in May. In addition to these big social events, we will be organising talks each term on topics helpful to parents of teenagers, as well as our regular coffee mornings for all parents and guardians, including special events for International parents.
All the details of our events are sent out by email and are also listed on the College website and the new App. My tip to you today is the answer to most questions can be found on the College Website!
Our two main fundraising activities are second hand uniform sales and our golf classic and we certainly hope that we can count on your support as only by raising funds can we support the school in so many ways
All funds raised and collected by the PTA are fed directly back into the College and therefore are used to enhance your child's St Andrew's experience. Examples of activities we support include sports, drama and musical events, Intercultural Week International Night, the annual Science Festival and Graduation ceremonies in both the Junior and Senior College.
In addition, on your behalf, we show our appreciation to the school staff at Easter by preparing them a delicious staff breakfast, by congratulating members of staff who have retired, by contributing to Christmas festivities and also by organising a Debs Reception for our recent graduates.
The PTA meets once a month and all meetings are minuted as per our Constitution. Any parent or guardian may raise issues they feel are relevant or important with The Chair or The Hon Secretary for discussion at meetings.
We also welcome any interest you might have in helping out with PTA and school events, so please don't be shy in coming forward! All our elected positions are now filled for 2019/2020, but there is a process for co-opting short term members and we also maintain a list of occasional PTA volunteers to help us with large events, so please contact us if you would like your name placed on the list.
For more information on the PTA please see the website
Looking forward to meeting you and your family during the year. If at any point you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch."
