Having arrived in The Hague on Sunday afternoon for the 2020 THIMUN Conference, our delegates began to ready themselves for Day 1 which is all about Lobbying.

Lobbying is a crucial part of MUN where delegates get to meet other delegates from their committees and discuss the various topics up for discussion. They work together to develop the resolutions which will form the basis of their week’s work.

On Monday students discussed everything from air pollution to dietary diversity, industrial waste to insect pollinators, climate change and single-use plastics.

On Monday evening students met Ambassador Kevin Kelly at the Irish Embassy to The Netherlands in The Hague who very kindly invited them to a reception there.

The students threw themselves into debate on days two and three of the conference. Many of our students were the main submitter of resolutions debated in the various committees.

Students were also very much involved in general debate in regular committees and in the International Courts of Justice and Security Council.

On Wednesday afternoon students visited the Mauritshuis, home to the best of Dutch painting from the age of Rembrandt and Vermeer.  Masterpieces such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, The Goldfinch by Fabritius and The Bull by Potter are on permanent display in the intimate museum rooms of this beautiful seventeenth-century building.
