CONAN DOYLE - Basketball Programme Director

“Practise as you mean to Play”

Coach Conan arrived from New Haven, Connecticut at St Andrew’s College in 1992 and has now been coaching basketball for more than 30 years at the College!

With over fifty years’ experience as a coach and player, Coach Conan has a clear philosophy attached to the programme in St Andrew’s.  This philosophy of inclusion, community, shared responsibility and perseverance has created an impressive legacy.

Through a player-focused approach, over 30 years, Coach Conan has had players playing at Dublin, Leinster and national levels as well as representing Ireland internationally. Coach Conan has also seen players progress to the highest collegiate level in the United States of America and play professionally in Europe and Australia.  His teams have appeared in All-Ireland Finals and have won over forty South Dublin Basketball League Championships.

GARETH O'REILLY

Gareth began coaching in St Andrew’s in 2015. Gareth graduated from UCD with a Master’s in Education and is now employed as a teacher in the College with a degree in English and Geography. He has extensive coaching experience at the school, club and international level. At the club level he is a back to back national cup champion as a Head Coach with UCD Marian as well as having spent the last 6 years involved in coaching the u16, 17, 18 and 20s Basketball Ireland Men’s National Teams.

MATT KELLY

Matt began coaching in St Andrew’s in 2016.  Matt is a former St Andrew’s College player who was on the 2018 Irish National team that took home Bronze in the European Small Nation’s Tournament. Matt has just retired from UCD Marian’s Super League team after 15 years of play. Matt also possesses a Diploma in Personal Training and Physical Fitness and has extensive experience coaching at the school’s level.Matt began coaching in St Andrew’s in 2016.  Matt is a former St Andrew’s College player who was on the 2018 Irish National team that took home Bronze in the European Small Nation’s Tournament. AILBHE DAVOREN

Ailbhe’s background is in Education Science, Biology and Agriculture.  Ailbhe was on the U18 Irish National Team, won All-Ireland titles at U14 and U16 and currently plays for Dublin Raiders in Dublin Division 1. Ailbhe is also a member of the Senior Ladies Football team for Galway. 

 

 

MEGAN COLLINS

 Megan, is a former St Andrew’s player having graduated in 2020, and has been part of our coaching staff ever since.
