UNICEF Ireland
On the last day before mid -term, Friday 12, we received a talk from Penelope Muteteli who works with UNICEF Ireland. Penelope, who is originally from Rwanda, was forced to leave her country during the genocide in 1994. She has since worked for almost all UN agencies in more than 50 countries before seeking asylum in Ireland. Penelope received great respect from the students and delivered a wonderful speech, highlighting the aims and objectives of UNICEF. Penelope also spoke briefly about the crisis in Haiti, which is something that St Andrew’s College has been actively involved in. We have managed to raise well over €8000 thus far and today I had the honour to present Penelope with a cheque for the money we raised. The students are still working hard to raise more money during Haiti’s time of need.
