My Fair Lady School Musical
St. Andrew’s College’s production of “My Fair Lady” ran over three nights in the last week of January. Rehearsals began in the early part of last term, and intensified after Christmas as the shows approached. Rehearsal provided a wonderful opportunity for students to make new friendships among the other members of the cast. The principal cast members included Rose Lonergan and Polly Ward rotating as Eliza Doolittle, the “Squashed Cabbage Leaf from Covent Garden”, Fionn McGorry as Professor Henry Higgins, the Author of “Higgins’ Universal Alphabet”, David Martin as Colonel Hugh Pickering, the Author of “Spoken Sanskrit”, Gillian Lambert and Maria Schofield Legorburo rotating as Mrs Pearse, Professor Higgins’ caring Housekeeper, and Euan Murphy and Lorcan Miller rotating as Alfred Doolittle, Eliza’s father. The production has been widely hailed as a resounding success, in no small part due to the amazing work of our excellent director, Mary West, our wonderful director of music, Edel Sludds, and other members of the team including our Choreographer Ms Sawyer, the Art Department including Ms Daly and Ms Garvey, and our backstage crew led by Ms Carroll. Many in the cast are sad to say goodbye, but all I can say is: “By George, Old man, we did it…”
