Advice to New Parents
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of St Andrew’s College welcomes all new parents to the College. We wish you and your children a very happy and fulfilled time here and look forward to meeting you at school functions.
As a new parent you may find it confusing at times to know whom you should contact for certain information or you may be unsure about how to help out.
Parents of children in the Senior School may find the setting quite different from the previous school their children attended. They may fear losing touch with their children’s education and with what is going on in the school. Because parents are crucial to their children’s success we, the PTA, would like to offer the following advice to help you.
Getting Information:
At Junior School level:
For general information the Junior School communicates directly with parents at meetings, by mailings and via the school website at
www.st-andrews.ie This site contains a wealth of information about the College.
Twice- monthly information bulletins are sent home with students. Bi-annually the College publishes its own magazine, Grapevine.
At Senior School level:
Again at Senior School level the College communicates directly with parents by holding Subject Information/Orientation meetings, through mailings and through the website at www.st-andrews.ie Early in the Spring Term an Annual Parents Day gives parents the opportunity to meet their child’s Form Teacher formally and to discuss their child’s progress. Should you wish to meet with any of the subject teachers, we recommend that you first phone your child’s Form Teacher teacher at 01 2882785.
Volunteer: The PTA organises many events during the school year. Information about these events will be posted on the PTA notice boards in the Junior and Senior School reception areas, on the website and in the Grapevine. There are numerous opportunities during the year for parents to help out and this parental assistance is invaluable to the PTA. By helping out at and attending these events parents can get to know other parents. Volunteer forms are available from Reception and you may call your PTA representative (see accompanying sheet) for information on various tasks.
Process for addressing problems: There are many people available to help you if problems arise. These include the Headmaster, Principal of the Junior School, Deputy Principals, Form Teachers, Teachers, Counsellors and Administrators. If you are unsure who to contact, your PTA Class Representative can advise you.
