Open Event
The St. Andrew’s Equestrian Team’s first competition this year was the interschools competition in Boswell Equestrian Centre. This was hosted by St. Gerard’s College. Our team for the day consisted of Joanne Lavery, Eve Hedderman, Katie Coen and Rachel Lee. That was our jumping order. We each jumped two rounds of fences to qualify for the jump off.  We finished in 10th place after the jump-off and had a great day! We are looking forward to many more competitions riding for the school throughout the year.

At Boswell
On Saturday the 26th 0f September, St. Andrews College set out on their first show jumping competition of the season, in Boswell Equestrian Centre, Ashford county Wicklow. The sun was shining and the whole team was very excited. We were all hoping to do our very best.
The team met at 10:30am and did our course walk. We were pleasantly surprised at the course as there were no tricky fences or any turns that were too hard. It was slightly on the small side though for the open. After we had learned the course we tacked up and mounted are ponies and horses. The warm up flew by and next thing we knew we were at the pocket waiting to go. First in was Joanne on her horse Trigger, she went clear in both her rounds. Next up was me; thankfully a little pressure had been taken off me. Mitzen my pony and I went clear. Katie followed on her pony Whisper she went clear in the 1st round but sadly had one fence down in her second round. The pressure was on Rachael to jump clear and thankfully she and Boheraroan Boy did. That put us through to the jump off.
Joanne and I were chosen for the jump off. Joanne jumped an incredibly fast round but unfortunately rattled the last fence and had it down. I went in and knew I just needed to go clear. I landed clear and we went into 6th place, by the end of the day we had been pushed into 10th which was just 2 places out of the prizes.
For are first time back this year we were incredibly happy with our selves and left with smiling faces!

Novice Event
We all eventually arrived at Coilog Equestrian Centre with lots of time to spare. First we all walked the Open course, and then Sebastian and I looked at the Novice course but as this was in the same arena it was quite confusing but eventually we got the hang of it.
We started by warming up in the practice arena and jumped a few fences and waited till we were called to jump for our school. I was jumping first for St. Andrew’s and just before my turn  somebody fell off their horse and was on the ground for a long time. They had been going too fast.
That day, the problem for me was my pony. Simpson hates waiting and as it was starting to get cold, he became very stiff and slow. Unfortunately I got eight faults. Then it was Sebastian’s turn on his own horse, which he was going very nicely on, and he jumped a clear round which was a brilliant result!
